Protecting Kids From Tobacco - Vape, Don't Smoke!

Every single day, almost 4,000 kids under 18 try their first cigarette. 1,000 kids under 18 become daily smokers. This statistic is very alarming. The fact that many of these kids will become addicted before they are old enough to understand the risks and will ultimately die too young of tobacco-related diseases is very disturbing. The FDA is working to protect the health of America's children. It is one of their life mission to eradicate tobacco-related cases which would ultimately reduce the burden of illness and death caused by tobacco use.

Recent studies have been found that 443,000 US. Deaths are attributable each year to cigarette smoking. The numbers are horryfying:

  • Lung Cancer: 128,900 (29%)
  • Ischemic Heart Disease: 126,000 (28%)
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: 92,900 (21%)
  • Other Diagnoses: 44,000 (29%)
  • Other Cancers: 35,300 (8%)
  • Stroke: 15,900 (4%)


Regulations Restricting the Sale and Distribution of Cigarettes and Smokeless Tobacco to Protect Children and Adolescents

The FDA is issuing a final rule that contains a broad set of federal requirements designed to significantly curb access to and the appeal of cigarettes and smokeless tobacco products to children and adolescents in the United States.

Published March 19, 2010, the new rule becomes effective June 22, 2010, and has the force and effect of law. Among other things, the rule:

  • Prohibits the sale of cigarettes or smokeless tobacco to people younger than 18,
  • Prohibits the sale of cigarette packages with less than 20 cigarettes,
  • Prohibits distribution of free samples of cigarettes,
  • Restricts distribution of free samples of smokeless tobacco, and
  • Prohibits tobacco brand name sponsorship of any athletic, musical or other social or cultural events.

Now in our opinion, it's no surprise that the tobacco industry feels threatened by those new vaping devices coming out. It definitely is a healthier alternative because it's not smoke, its vapor. It uses essential aromatheray oils which is actually beneficial to the body. We can't deny it, more people are using it now and it has become the trend since the decline of electronic cigarettes. This could just be one of the solutions where our community can be smoke-free and that our children can be protected from using tobacco smoking. Do you feel the same?
